Find the Feathers Scavenger Hunt: The Find the Feathers Scavenger Hunt was held on November 21st, 2013. All students at Shelby Junior High were able to participate. Paper feathers were hidden around the school in empty lockers, and students had to solve riddles and quick math problems. If they found the correct answer, they were given hints as to the location of the feathers. By the end of the event, the team with the most feathers received the prize: a turkey with a pineapple as the body and gift cards as feathers, surrounded by a nest of candy. The prize was generously donated by the Kiwanis Club. Second place also received a prize. There was lot of laughter, and everybody left with a smile on their face from the first school-wide event of the 2013-2014 Builders Club.
Jean drive: the jean drive was a service project we held in December 2013. We collected pairs of jeans that Shelby Junior High students donated, and we donated them to the homeless. We collected enough jeans to fill two large boxes, both overflowing by the time it was done. It made us all happy to know that we helped so many people with this service project.
Candy Jar raffle: The candy jar raffle was a school-wide activity held in December 2013, right before Christmas break. We put an assortment of candy into a large glass jar, and students could take a guess at how much candy was in the jar. One guess was a dollar, and students could guess during their lunch. In the end, there were multiple students who guessed the amount of 150 exactly correct, and the candy was split between them. This event was a big success, everyone had fun, and we hope to do it again next year!
Blanket Making: We did the blanket making at one of our regular meetings in January 2014. We worked together with Eisenhower High School's Key Club to make the blankets. The blankets were donated to a women and children's shelter. In an hour and a half, Builders Club made about ten blankets to donate, and everyone had a lot of fun doing it!
Ring Pop Sale: The Ring Pop sale was a school-wide event held in February 2014, from the 12th to the 14th. This event was successful last year, so we decided to do it again. Students could buy a ring pop for a dollar at their lunch. The event went well once again, with many kids enjoying a
Ring Pop during that week. We hope to make this event an annual thing.

Book Drive: The book drive is a February service event we decided to do. We collected gently used books for all ages. The books we collected went to two places: the East Detroit Alternative High School and the Clinton Macomb public library. The event went very well, and we collected multiple boxes full of books to donate!
Kids Against Hunger food packaging event: The Kids Against Hunger food packaging event was held in early April 2014, and it was a huge success! I was amazed at the number of young people there on a Saturday morning, giving their time for such a good cause. In one shift alone, we packaged enough meals to feed hundreds, and everyone who came left with a happy heart knowing how a few hours of their time could make such a difference.
Easter bunny lunch: The Easter bunny lunch was on Saturday, April 12, 2014. I couldn't be at the event myself, but I heard that it went very well. The kids had a great time searching for eggs, and everyone helping out enjoyed being there and giving their time for the kids.
Roadside cleanup: On April 26 2014, Builders Club helped Kiwanis club clean up the road that they adopted. It turns out, picking up trash with your friends is actually really fun, and it's for a good cause! Not only did we make Shelby Township a little cleaner, but we also found a few "treasures" such as a pair of gloves, a hoodie, and a dryer lid! It was a great event, and everybody was really glad that they came.
Autism Awareness Starburst sale: To support autism awareness month, Builders Club held a Starburst sale (to go with the theme of "be a star"). Anyone who purchased Starbursts got a chance to participate in a dodge ball game, teachers versus students. We did 3 games: one for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade, and each was held on a Friday during 6th hour. Everyone not playing got to come and watch their grade level's game. The Starburst sale went very well, and the dodgeball games were a huge hit with every grade!
New Member Recruit Dodgeball Game: The first thing we did in the 2014-15 school year was plan a way to recruit new members for Builders' Club. What better way to do that than a game of dodgeball? On the day of the event, the result was incredible; we had enough participants to fill our classroom! Everybody had a blast playing dodgeball and tug-of-war, and we were also able to share some important information about Builders' Club. The event was proven to be very successful in the fact that we have a record high number of members in the SJH Builders' Club this year.
Teachers' Trunk-or-Treat: Around Halloween in 2014, Builders' Club helped out at the Trunk-or-Treat for SJH teachers and their kids. The event lasted for a couple of hours, and we were in charge of games for the children. We had temporary tattoos, a drop-the-ball-into-the-bucket game for younger children, and more things to entertain the kids. I speak for all of us when I say that it was a really heartwarming experience to see how excited those little kids were and know that we helped make that happen. We definitely hope to do this again next year.
